LIFE SENTENCE TO DR.BINAYAK SEN:-ANOTHER ATTACK ON DEMOCRACY

On 24th of December 2010, the Indian Democracy met with another shameful blow when Human Rights Activist Dr. Binayak Sen was sentenced for life by Raipur Sessions court in Chhattisgarh. As it has become a common phenomenon that every State Govt. along with Centre Govt. is making draconian laws to curb the most basic human and fundamental rights guaranteed by any genuine democracy. The intentions of State are very much exposed when the murderers like Modi and Tytler are given clean chit and whoever speaks for rights of common man and minorities is termed as ‘separatist’ or ‘terrorist’. Many black laws such as Chhattisgarh Special public Security Act, UAPA (Centre Govt.’s) and two such bills which Punjab Govt. wants to make them laws are indications of rapid changing character of the Indian State

Student/worker demonstrations: We need to control our own struggles!

The leaflet below was given out at the large meeting held at King's College on Monday 15th November, under the auspices of the left wing of the unions (Education Activists Network). We would welcome comments, criticisms, and above all, offers to distribute it or improve and update it in this period leading up to next week's Day of Action. A comrade from the ICC's section in Toulouse, which has been very active in the movement for struggle committees and assemblies, was able to speak at the meeting; and despite a frontal attack on the French union strategies, was widely applauded. We will try to piece together more elements about this meeting.
For a long time, it has seemed that the working class in Britain has been stunned into silence by the brutality of the attacks being launched by the new government: forcing the disabled back to work, forcing the jobless to work for nothing, raising the pension age, savage spending cuts in the education sector, hundreds of thousands of jobs to go throughout the public sector, trebling of university tuition fees and

Special plan for Naxal-hit districts

- A mask to provide infrastructure facilities to the occupying para-military forces -
by Stan Swamy
December 09, 2010
The govt has for quite some time been making a big noise that it is going to develop the naxal-affected districts in such a way that naxalism will fail to attract young Adivasis to its fold in future. At last it has come out with this Special plan for Naxal-hit districts as per which each of the 35 naxal-affected districts would get Rs 25 crore every year for undertaking developmental work in healthcare, schooling, sanitation and drinking water sectors.
Actually, it is a special plan to provide infrastructure facilities to the 200,000 para-military & police forces occupying these districts where Op Green Hunt is in operation. Right now, these infra-structure facilities are mostly absent in the forest villages occupied by the govt forces. The Home Minister has said that it will take five years for these forces to flush out the naxalites. Five years is a fairly long time and govt forces will need these facilities to keep them happy. During these five years, the torture of the young men will be such that they will be in jail or become SPOs or be killed in fake encounters. The older men & women together with their children will be displaced and driven out of their lands and forests. This will prepare the ground for the corporates to set up their mining industries and loot the rich natural, mineral wealth.

The "Seditionist" Speech

Full transcript of the speech citing which charges of sedition, promoting enmity between classes, and more have been filed against Arundhati Roy and others

Arundhati Roy
After "necessary investigations" of the speeches on Kashmir made by Arundhati Roy, Shuddhabrata Sengupta, Varavara Rao, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, SAR Geelani and Sheikh Showkat Hussain at a seminar, "Azadi-the Only Way" on October 21 in Delhi on October 21, 2010, the Delhi Police had earlier, "acting in accordance with the letter and spirit of the law,” decided not to file any case against the individuals concerned.
Not satisfied with this turn of events — "the state must show tolerance and forbearance," the home minister P.Chidambaram had said — someone called Sushil Pandit, who, as it turns out, happens to be the advertising campaign manager of Mr Arun Jaitley of the BJP, filed a complaint before a Delhi magistrate who demanded that police should file a First Information Report (FIR)
An FIR was lodged on November 29 under sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between classes), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (false statement, rumour circulated with intent to cause mutiny or offence against public peace).

ANTI PEOPLE WEAPON IN THE HANDS OF STATE

With the ongoing crisis of political and economic nature the state of Punjab in the last decade has witnessed rise of unprecedented unemployment, debt and discontent among the people. Consequently brave people and restless youth of Punjab have taken its anger to roads. This is so obvious from the sharp struggles of ETT, JBT, B.Ed, anganwari aspirants on the one hand and heroic struggles of peasantry in the recent past. And on the other hand Punjab State has continued its mindless, brutal repression on unarmed people and now it seems that it is missing its undemocratic, repressive powers which it enjoyed during the era of armed separatist movement of Punjab.

They can file a charge posthumously against Jawaharlal Nehru too: Arundhati Roy

My reaction to today's court order directing the Delhi Police to file an FIR against me for waging war against the state: Perhaps they should posthumously file a charge against Jawaharlal Nehru too. Here is what he said about Kashmir:
1. In his telegram to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru said, “I should like to make it clear that the question of aiding Kashmir in this emergency is not designed in any way to influence the state to accede to India. Our view which we have repeatedly made public is that the question of accession in any disputed territory or state must be decided in accordance with wishes of people and we adhere to this view.” (Telegram 402 Primin-2227 dated 27th October, 1947 to PM of Pakistan repeating telegram addressed to PM of UK).
2. In other telegram to the PM of Pakistan, Pandit Nehru said

'The azadi sentiment can never be killed'

Interview with Syed Ali Shah Geelani, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (G) leader.

He is described as Pakistan's biggest asset in Kashmir. Not all Kashmiris agree with the role that Syed Ali Shah Geelani has played in Kashmir's turmoil, but they are united in saying that unlike other political leaders of the Valley, he is not a “sell-out” to India. He also came out against Pakistan for “diluting” its stand on Kashmir under General Pervez Musharraf. The hawkish views of the separatist 84-year-old, who heads his own Hurriyat Conference faction, had once marginalised him in Kashmir. But he is back in the limelight after assuming the leadership of the latest agitation in the Valley. Excerpts of an interview, by Nirupama Subramanian, with him at his Srinagar home, where he is presently under house arrest.

‘An independent Kashmiri nation may be a flawed entity, but is independent India perfect?’

As a section of the political class and the media bays for her blood, author Arundhati Roy tells SHOMA CHAUDHURY why her opinions do not amount to sedition
Speaking her mind Arundhati Roy’s views on the Kashmir issue have invited brickbats from all possible quarters

The State has been contemplating charges of sedition against you for your speeches in Delhi and Kashmir. How do you understand sedition? Did you see yourself as being seditious? What was your intention in speaking from those two platforms in Delhi and Srinagar under the rubric — Azadi: The only way.

Delhi Convention on Kashmir - Report and Resolution

AZADI: THE ONLY WAY

21 OCTOBER 2010, LTG AUDITORIUM, MANDI HOUSE, NEW DELHI
ORGANISED BY COMMITTEE FOR THE RELEASE OF POLITICAL PRISONERS (CRPP)
A REPORT
The convention on Kashmir that was held on the 21 October 2010 proved to be historic in every aspect given the topicality of the issue. As can be noticed from the title of the convention itself we at the CRPP thought it necessary to pose the question directly, as the people of Kashmir, in their persistent struggle for their right to self-determination braving the repressive apparatus of the Indian State had dared even in their death.
