STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH FTII STUDENTS’ PROTEST AGAINST APPOINTMENT OF GAJENDRA CHAUHAN AS FTII CHAIRMAN

IN SOLIDARITY WITH FTII STUDENTS’ PROTEST AGAINST APPOINTMENT OF GAJENDRA CHAUHAN AS FTII CHAIRMAN

Students For Society stands in solidarity with the protest of FTII students against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan (a BJP member) as FTII chairman. The appointment is attack on the progressive tradition and legacy of FTII and can’t be seen in the isolation from other series of events happening in our society.

The fascist forces (Sangh Parivar) are desperate to control various educational, research and cultural institutions. One after another appointments are being made in which BJP-RSS-VHP associates are being allocated top posts. Y Sudershan Rao, who openly upholds caste system, was made ICHR Chairman. Dina Nath Batra, whose books promoting Hindutva ideology were circulated by Gujarat govt in 42,000 schools, was appointed to guide education in Haryana (a BJP ruled state). Similarily can be seen the appointment of Pahlaj Nihalani (who made promotional films on Modi) as chairperson of CFBC and NFDC is expected to have another BJP supporter as its next Chairman. The textbooks are being re-written to suit Hindutva ideology. This all is happening with the background of increasing number of communal violence and pseudo-nationalism and religious-chauvinism being propagated with BJP MPs regularly spitting communal venom in their statements. The current appointment is in the same row and has been made completely ignoring any academic or artistic contributions.

SFS stands in support of the FTII students who, recognising these fascist trends, have not bowed down but dared to stand against it. SFS appeals all the progressive sections of the society to come forward in the support of the ongoing struggle of the students of FTII.

EFFIGY OF CASTE SYSTEM BURNT BY SFS TO PROTEST AGAINST BAN ON AMBEDKAR-PERIYAR STUDY CIRCLE IN IIT MADRAS

Around 100 students today gathered at the Student Centre of PU to protest against the ban imposed on Ambedkar-Periyar Study Circle by IIT-Madras administration on the diktat of MHRD by burning the effigy of the Caste system. IIT-M authorities cited the reason regarding derecognising APSC that they are “promoting Caste hatred” and are spreading hatred against the Modi government. Ridiculing these points Students For Society(SFS) President, Arishdeep said, “It is the complete violation of fundamental right of freedom of expression and said that criticising the policies of govt. is not spreading hatred and putting forward the ideas of Baba Saheb Ambedkar on Caste is also not spreading hatred.”
While addressing, Arishdeep said, “Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle has criticised the Modi regime for "pro-corporate" policies such as the Land Acquisition Bill and insurance and labour reforms and were regularly conducting activities on the core problems of the society which was called by the authority as misusing the privileges given the IIT and for that they derecognized APSC. SFS stand in complete solidarity with APSC and demand that the ban be immediately revoked.”

SFS PROTESTED AGAINST MOGA MOLESTATION CASE & BRUTAL ACTION OF PUNJAB POLICE ON PROTESTING FARIDKOT STUDENTS

CONDEMN THE BRUTAL ACTION OF POLICE ON PROTESTING STUDENTS IN FARIDKOT!
FIGHT FOR JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS OF MOGA BUS ORBIT MOLESTATION CASE!
FIGHT AGAINST THE GROWING HOOLIGANISM OF BADALS AND CO.!
DOWN WITH PATRIARCHAL PUNJAB STATE MACHINERY!

SFS today protested against Moga Orbit Bus Molestation Case and brutal action of Punjab police on protesting Punjab Students Union members.

On 28th April, a 13 year old girl while travelling with her mother was sexually assaulted by Orbit staffers. When she opposed they threw them outside the moving bus. The girl died on the spot, her mother was severely injured. While condemning the issue, the protesting students were demanding that a criminal case should be registered against the owners of Orbit Aviations. In some time, the New Deep Bus of another Akali Dal leader proceeds towards the students and tried to crush them. In response to this when students retaliated, the police lathi-charged, arrested and registered an attempt to murder case against the students.

These both incidents unmasks the patriarchal behaviour of Punjab government and at the same time clearly speaks the present scenario of Punjab. With every passing day, the Badals vast empire (business) is expanding. Their flourishing bus service is well known to all as it has nearly occupied every major bus route of Punjab by cunningly lessening the public transport, in which Punjab police is acting as the bodyguards of Badals & co. to safeguard their masters’ vast empire. What more naked service can we witness that the whole Punjab state machinery have stood beside the culprits, and the other hand, police has registered an attempt to murder & other charges against the 14 students and arrested 29 of them.

In the recent past also similar cases of hooliganism has been witnessed in Jalandhar and Amritsar. SFS strongly condemns the registration of cases and arrests of students and demands:

·       1. A criminal case must be registered against owners of Orbit Aviation.

·       2. Cases registered against Faridkot students be withdrawn.

·       3. Cases must be registered against policemen involved in the action.
