Protest held against the autocratic action of UT police

THE DEMOCRATIC VOICE OF THE STUDENTS CAN BE NEVER SUPPRESSED BY THE REACTIONARY STATE AGENCIES!!!!!

A protest was organized today by Students For Society (SFS) with the active participation of civil society activists and students. The demand was raised for the quashing of FIR registered on 14 students by UT police under police-post Sukhna Lake, Police Station sector-3, Chandigarh. The FIR was registered when about 50 students were protesting against the Delhi Gang Rape case in front of the Governor House. The protest was one of the many countrywide protests held at that time. At that time students were peacefully protesting but were thrashed and girls were abused by UT police and then they were taken to police station. The protest took place on 25th December, 2012.

At that time no information was given regarding any FIR but now (when admissions are going on) in order to harass the students they have begun proceedings. The FIR was registered under IPC section 147, 149 and 283 (for rioting, unlawful assembly and obstruction in navigation) against 14 students. This targeted action of police shall be criticised. Moreover Right to protest is even recognized as a fundamental right by the Indian constitution.

Various civil society activists slammed this repression of democratic voice by UT police and demanded immediate quashing of the above said FIR. Also, a memorandum signed by about 500 students and citizens of tricity regarding the same was submitted to the Home Secretary of Chandigarh and NHRC. Slogans against this oppressive action of UT police were raised and it was demanded that instead of repressing genuine demands of citizens [police shall show some empathy to the cause.

WE APPEAL ALL THE PROGRESSIVE SECTIONS OF SOCIETY TO STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH STUDENTS AND RAISE THEIR VOICE AGAINST SUCH FASCIST ACTIONS OF STATE.
