People valiantly fight black laws in Punjab

PUNJAB GOVT ATTEMPTS TO CRUSH DISSENT & PEOPLE’S STRUGGLES THROUGH DRACONIAN LAWS

PEOPLE COME OUT IN STREETS TO OPPOSE
by Narinder Kumar Jeet
21 January, 2011
In the last Assembly session, Punjab Govt got passed four anti-people black-laws, to put shackles, on the struggling and rationally thinking people. The Punjab (Prevention of Damage to Public & Private Property) Act – 2010, puts a complete ban on the protest demonstrations, marches, rallies etc, as it ordains that nothing like that shall be permitted to be done without prior permission from the District Magistrate or Police Commissioner, which is most unlikely to come. Even where the permission is granted, the organizers shall have to give an undertaking to the concerned SHO, the route and slogans

LIFE SENTENCE TO DR.BINAYAK SEN:-ANOTHER ATTACK ON DEMOCRACY

On 24th of December 2010, the Indian Democracy met with another shameful blow when Human Rights Activist Dr. Binayak Sen was sentenced for life by Raipur Sessions court in Chhattisgarh. As it has become a common phenomenon that every State Govt. along with Centre Govt. is making draconian laws to curb the most basic human and fundamental rights guaranteed by any genuine democracy. The intentions of State are very much exposed when the murderers like Modi and Tytler are given clean chit and whoever speaks for rights of common man and minorities is termed as ‘separatist’ or ‘terrorist’. Many black laws such as Chhattisgarh Special public Security Act, UAPA (Centre Govt.’s) and two such bills which Punjab Govt. wants to make them laws are indications of rapid changing character of the Indian State

Student/worker demonstrations: We need to control our own struggles!

The leaflet below was given out at the large meeting held at King's College on Monday 15th November, under the auspices of the left wing of the unions (Education Activists Network). We would welcome comments, criticisms, and above all, offers to distribute it or improve and update it in this period leading up to next week's Day of Action. A comrade from the ICC's section in Toulouse, which has been very active in the movement for struggle committees and assemblies, was able to speak at the meeting; and despite a frontal attack on the French union strategies, was widely applauded. We will try to piece together more elements about this meeting.
For a long time, it has seemed that the working class in Britain has been stunned into silence by the brutality of the attacks being launched by the new government: forcing the disabled back to work, forcing the jobless to work for nothing, raising the pension age, savage spending cuts in the education sector, hundreds of thousands of jobs to go throughout the public sector, trebling of university tuition fees and

Special plan for Naxal-hit districts

- A mask to provide infrastructure facilities to the occupying para-military forces -
by Stan Swamy
December 09, 2010
The govt has for quite some time been making a big noise that it is going to develop the naxal-affected districts in such a way that naxalism will fail to attract young Adivasis to its fold in future. At last it has come out with this Special plan for Naxal-hit districts as per which each of the 35 naxal-affected districts would get Rs 25 crore every year for undertaking developmental work in healthcare, schooling, sanitation and drinking water sectors.
Actually, it is a special plan to provide infrastructure facilities to the 200,000 para-military & police forces occupying these districts where Op Green Hunt is in operation. Right now, these infra-structure facilities are mostly absent in the forest villages occupied by the govt forces. The Home Minister has said that it will take five years for these forces to flush out the naxalites. Five years is a fairly long time and govt forces will need these facilities to keep them happy. During these five years, the torture of the young men will be such that they will be in jail or become SPOs or be killed in fake encounters. The older men & women together with their children will be displaced and driven out of their lands and forests. This will prepare the ground for the corporates to set up their mining industries and loot the rich natural, mineral wealth.

The "Seditionist" Speech

Full transcript of the speech citing which charges of sedition, promoting enmity between classes, and more have been filed against Arundhati Roy and others

Arundhati Roy
After "necessary investigations" of the speeches on Kashmir made by Arundhati Roy, Shuddhabrata Sengupta, Varavara Rao, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, SAR Geelani and Sheikh Showkat Hussain at a seminar, "Azadi-the Only Way" on October 21 in Delhi on October 21, 2010, the Delhi Police had earlier, "acting in accordance with the letter and spirit of the law,” decided not to file any case against the individuals concerned.
Not satisfied with this turn of events — "the state must show tolerance and forbearance," the home minister P.Chidambaram had said — someone called Sushil Pandit, who, as it turns out, happens to be the advertising campaign manager of Mr Arun Jaitley of the BJP, filed a complaint before a Delhi magistrate who demanded that police should file a First Information Report (FIR)
An FIR was lodged on November 29 under sections 124A (sedition), 153A (promoting enmity between classes), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (false statement, rumour circulated with intent to cause mutiny or offence against public peace).

ANTI PEOPLE WEAPON IN THE HANDS OF STATE

With the ongoing crisis of political and economic nature the state of Punjab in the last decade has witnessed rise of unprecedented unemployment, debt and discontent among the people. Consequently brave people and restless youth of Punjab have taken its anger to roads. This is so obvious from the sharp struggles of ETT, JBT, B.Ed, anganwari aspirants on the one hand and heroic struggles of peasantry in the recent past. And on the other hand Punjab State has continued its mindless, brutal repression on unarmed people and now it seems that it is missing its undemocratic, repressive powers which it enjoyed during the era of armed separatist movement of Punjab.
